PURPOSE:To stabilize the control of a nozzle and to prevent the clogging thereof by providing means for measuring a casting speed and molten steel head of a tundish respectively and disposing means for controlling and compensating output to a opening degree controller. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal level gage 7 is provided to a mold 4 and a PID controller 18 is disposed as the nozzle opening degree controller; further a PID parameter compensator 17, an exfoliation compensation discriminator 6 and a clogging compensation discriminator 15 are respectively installed in a control circuit. A stopper 6 is operated by a stopper operation cylinder 10 and the opening degree of the nozzle is controlled and compensated by the discriminators 15, 16 and the compensator 17 in accordance with the difference between the theoretical value of the opening degree of the nozzle and actual value obtd. from the ingot drawing speed, the molten steel head (h) of the tundish, etc. The control of the nozzle 3 is stabilized and the clogging of the nozzle is prevented by the above-mentioned method.
