PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit constitution by discriminating a signal whether it is a vertical synchronizing signal or not by the pulse width of the signal obtained at the output of a vertical synchronizing signal separation circuit. CONSTITUTION:In a multi-PCM reproduction time, no pulse is inputted to the input 13 of a discrimination circuit 7 when a recording is performed only on a PCM recording dedicated track, but at a time except the above, a pulse signal having a wide pulse width is inputted to it. The discrimination circuit 7 can discriminate the signal whether it is the vertical synchronizing signal or not, by detecting the pulse width of an inputted pulse signal. Since an FM demodulation circuit, and the vertical synchronizing signal separation circuit can be used as they are, a switching between a video and a multi-PCM signal can be obtained with a simple circuit constitution.
