PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composite fiber having high thermal shrinkage and excellent latent crimping property and useful as a stretchable soft fabric, etc., by eccentrically conjugating a polyester such as polyalkylene terephthalate with a thermotropic liquid crystal polyester. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber can be produced by composite spinning of (A) a polyester composed (mainly) of a polyalkylene terephthalate and obtained by polymerizing an acid component consisting of terephthalic acid and a glycol component consisting of ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, etc., and (B) a thermopropic liquid crystal polyester of formula II (Ar<1> is trivalent aromatic group) produced by polymerizing a hosphorus-containing aromatic diol of formula I, etc., and terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, etc., to form eccentrically conjugated fibers.
