HEAT-TREATMENT OF CARBON FIBER

PURPOSE:To prevent welding of fibers, to improve the rate of heating and to increase the charging amount, by supporting a needle-like beam with a container wall in a manner extended through a fiber group in nearly horizontal state utilizing openings of the wall. CONSTITUTION:A cotton-like fiber group 1 is charged into a container 2 having a number of openings on the wall. A group of needle-like beams 6 are extended through the fiber group in nearly horizontal state utilizing the openings and supported on the wall surface. the inserting direction of the needle-like beam 6 may be single direction or perpendicularly crossing two directions. There is little compression of the fiber under its own weight after infusibilization. The process is effective also in carbonization step.
