PURPOSE:To obtain a printer capable of informing a user of the finish of printing processing, by generating printing finish sound in response to the finish of printing processing. CONSTITUTION:A printer is constituted of a printing data memory means for successively storing printing data 1, a microprocessor circuit 5, a printing mechanism part 8 and a notice sound generating means 10. The microprocessor circuit 5 sends a printing data reading signal 3 to the printing data memory means 2 to read printing data 4 and sends a printing operation signal 7 to a printing mechanism part 8. Thereafter, the microprocessor circuit 5 performs the detection 6 of printing data residual quantity with respect to the printing data memory means 2 and, when the detection result shows that the residual quantity of printing data 4 is absent, a notice sound generating means 10 generates the notice sound of printing operation finish on the basis of a notice sound generating signal 9. The printing data 4 of the printing data memory means 2 are entirely subjected to printing processing and this state is detected to generate the notice sound to allow a user to know the finish of printing operation or the notice sound is changed for each printer to enable the user to know which printer has finished.
