PURPOSE:To reduce the working space of assembly of a front wheel with the use of a front wheel gripping device, by clamping the rim of the wheel to locate and suspend the wheel, and by holding parts to assemble the same onto the inverted wheel. CONSTITUTION:After a gripping means 10 is moved to the front wheel 146 side, a clamping means 36 is driven to clamp a rim 152 with the use of abutting members 66a, 66b. Then,a collar gripping means 74 and a brake holding means 76 are driven to grip a collar 156 with the use of pawl sections 104a, 104b, and to press the same toward the wheel 146 while a brake panel 158 is pressed against and held on the wheel 146. Then, a pressing means 26 is driven to press a tire 150 downward while the wheel 10 is located and held on the gripping means 10. Then, the wheel is conveyed to the position of a front fork which is therefore assembled onto the wheel. With this arrangement, it is possible to reduce the working space of assembly of the wheel.
