<p>PURPOSE:To retard the shape change of a zinc electrode and the growth of dendritic zinc to increase the cycle life by retarding the dissolution of zinc from the periphery of a zinc electrode. CONSTITUTION:A zinc active material sheet mainly comprising 80wt% zinc oxide and 10wt% metal zinc is placed on each side of a current collector 4 made of copper, and pressed and dried to form a zinc active material layer 2. A mixture of 10pts Portland cement and 1 part calcium hydroxide is dispersed in ethanol. The dispersion is spayed onto the periphery of the zinc active material layer 2, and dried to form a thin layer 3 mainly comprising cement on the peripheral surface of the zinc active layer 2 of a zinc negative electrode 1. A separator 6 is placed between the negative electrode 1 and a sintered type nickel electrode 5, then they are spirally wound, and inserted into a heat shrinkable insulating tube 10 to form an electrode body. The electrode body is inserted into a battery can 7, alkaline solution servinf as electrolyte is poured into the can, then sealing member 8 is fixed via an insulating gasket 9.</p> |
