The invention relates to a hydropneumatic twin-tube vibration damper with a throttling cross-section variable as a function of temperature. In this vibration damper, the intention is that the compression damping should be compensated or varied as a function of the temperature. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that a component with a cross-section variable as a function of temperature is formed by a split control ring which is arranged in the region of the bottom valve and covers the through passage. This control ring comes to rest at its outside diameter against a rigid component and, in the compression phase of the vibration damper, is pressed against the component having the through passage by the pressure of the fluid.
