Control device, in particular for a plastics injection moulding machine, for controlling variable hydraulic pressures using a regulatable pressure-medium source whose delivery flow rate can be set virtually without loss and which feeds pressure medium, via a feedline, to a consumer, in particular to a plastics injection moulding machine, and with a pressure-relief valve in a branch line of the feedline, characterised in that the pressure-relief valve can be set to various predetermined pressure values, in that a sensing element is assigned to the pressure-relief valve which provides a signal H which corresponds to the excess of the pressure-medium delivery rate, and in that means are provided for deriving from the signal H a control signal for the pressure-medium source such that the pressure medium flow rate delivered by the pump is reduced to the smallest possible value which is necessary to maintain a predetermined pressure.
