NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (X is halogen; R<1> is H or lower alkyl; R<2> is H or trifluoromethyl). EXAMPLE:3-Chloro-1,4,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide. USE:Useful as a germicide, particularly as a preventing agent for gray mold and downy mildew of cucumber. In use, the parent chemical is solely used or blended with a carrier, surfactant, dispersing agent, etc., normally used in formulating agricultural chemicals and formulated for use. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II (R<3> is organic residue) is reacted with a halogenating agent in the presence of an inert solvent at a temperature within the range of -30 deg.C- the boiling point of the solvent to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The compound expressed by formula II is also a novel compound and synthesized by reacting, e.g. a compound expressed by formula III with CS2 and reacting the resultant reaction product with an alkylating agent.
