A flat gasket sheet, particularly for installation between the cylinder block (5) and the cylinder head (6) of an internal combustion engine consists essentially of a gasket sheet (1) of relatively flexible packing material, such as, for example, metal-clad asbestos, which, around at least one aperture, has an annular metallic reinforcement (2, 3) which occupies its entire height. The reinforcement bears at least one saw-toothed rib (3.3) surrounding the aperture and extending beyond the height of the remainder of the flat gasket sheet, the said rib digging into the material in contact with it and/or deforming to match the sealing surface concerned in order to provide an extremely reliable seal even in relation to high pressure differences. The reinforcement (2, 3) can be of two-part design, an outer sheet-metal ring (2) of U-shaped profile surrounding the rim of the gasket sheet (1) and engaging positively with its curved portion (2.1) in a correspondingly profiled inner ring (3) which, for its part, bears the rib(s) (3.3). A plurality of ribs (3.3) can be arranged in pairs on both sides and/or be arranged in series from the inside outwards. <IMAGE>
