PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of a distance measuring instrument and to measure distance with high accuracy through simple constitution by varying the distance between contour parts of plural pieces of luminous flux according to the distance from a light projection position to a subject. CONSTITUTION:Pieces alpha and beta of infrared beam luminous flux from light projection parts 2a and 2b differ in section perpendicular to optical axes at a long, an intermediate, and a short distance according to their diffusion and the pieces of luminous flux overlap with each other at the long distance. Reflected luminous flux from the object is incident on the photodetection surface of a CCD line sensor 4 and its photodetection pattern corresponds to the distance to the object. The output of the sensor 4 is inputted to a mu computer 7 to generate select signals corresponding to the long, intermediate, and short distances and a focus adjusting circuit 8 and a driving motor 9 operate according to those signals. Consequently, a photographic lens 1 moves to a position corresponding to the distance. |
