PURPOSE:To increase the life performance and safety, and to make quick charge possible by detecting increase in the internal pressure of a unit cell constituting a sealed lead-acid battery, and completing the charge when the pressure exceeds a specified value. CONSTITUTION:A plate group comprising a positive plate, a negative plate, and separator retaining the limited amount of an electrolyte so as not to cause leakage is placed between synthetic resin films having acid resistance and melt- bonding ability, and the circumference of the films is melt-bonded except for an unbonding part serving as a safety valve 2 to form a unit cell 3 constituting a sealed lead-acid battery. A semiconductor pressure sensor 4 is arranged between an outer case 1 and the plate surface of the unit cell. Increase in internal pressure caused by gas evolution in the positive plate and the negagive plate in the final stage of charge is detected with the pressure sensor 4, and charge is completed. |
