NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (B is formula II or III; at least one of R1-R3 is acyl or alkyl and the rest are H; R4 is H or alkyl). EXAMPLE:Triacetylcervinomycin A1. USE:An antimicrobial agent capable of exhibiting powerful activity particularly against mycoplasma and various anaerobic microorganisms and having improved solubility in solvents and reduced toxicity. PREPARATION:Cervinomycin A1 or A2 expressed by formula IV is reacted with an acylating agent, e.g. acetic anhydride, etc., or alkylating agent, e.g. methyl iodide, etc., in a solvent, e.g. pyridine, etc., in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. triethylamine, etc.
