A device for applying paint to surfaces, in particular to walls covered with wood-chip wallpaper. A paint applicator roll (15) has a hollow space (16). The paint applicator roll (15) is provided on its circumference with paint-outlet openings (6) leading from the hollow space (16) to the outer side. In the hollow space (16), a paint distributor (25) is arranged with a radial interspace (26) and is concentric with respect to the paint applicator roll (15). The paint applicator roll (15) and paint distributor (25) are rotatable relative to one another. To distribute the paint as uniformly as possible to the paint-outlet openings (6), mechanical baffles for distributing the paint on rotation of the paint applicator roll (15) and paint distributor (25) are arranged in opposing directions with respect to each other in the interspace (26) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
