The hydraulic device for controlling the braking force at a brake disc (18) with the aid of working cylinders (14 to 17) uses two pressure control units (29, 30) connected in series for controlling the pressures of the said cylinders (14 to 17), the flow rates of the said pressure control units (29, 30) being controlled by in each case one electromagnetically actuable, proportionally acting pilot valve (46, 53). These pilot valves are actuated via an electronic system (48, 56). When changes in the hydraulic pressure occur, the pressure control units operate in parallel. Both the system pressure and also the pressure of the valves are provided from the same pressure-medium source (10). In this way, dangerous operating states, for example the cable slip limit being exceeded, are avoided, specifically in a manner involving little expenditure. <IMAGE>
