PURPOSE:To prevent short-circuit caused by the extension of a positive plate by directing the extension of the positive plate downward, and preventing the upward extension of the plate with a comb-shaped insulating member and a collapsed separator. CONSTITUTION:A protecting plate 6 has a comb-like shape having a row of slits 8 which are formed in connection with a plurality of lugs to fit the lugs 3 of a negative plate 2. When a plate group is accommodated into a container 1, the upper end of a bag-like separator 4 made of synthetic resin is collapsed by the protecting plate 6, and the lugs 3 are fit in the slits 8. The collapsed upper end of the separator is extended in a side direction so as to cover the upper edge of a positive plate 2', and to form a partial bag. The welding connection between cells are made with the plate group hung in the container so that a space is formed between the bottom of the plate group and the upper surface of supports 5. |
