PURPOSE:To increase discharge performance by mixing copper oxide and lithium nitrate, and heating the mixture at a temperature exceeding the decomposition temperature of lithium nitrate, then using the mixture as an active material. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of copper oxide and lithium nitrate is heated at a temperature exceeding the decomposition temperature of lithium nitrate, then used as an active material of a positive electrode. By heat treatment, lithium is doped into the copper oxide to form a compound indicated in Li2CuO2, and the Li2CuO2 formed is mixed in the positive electrode mainly comprising copper oxide. When a battery is discharged, Li<+> ions released from Li2CuO2 and react with CuO. Together with this reaction, the reaction of Li in a negative electrode with CuO, with is the main discharge reaction, is advanced. The reaction of Li with CuO is smoothly undergone compared with the absence of Li2 CuO2 in the positive electrode. Therefore, high rate discharge performance is increased. |
