Veterinary compositions for the treatment of nematode infections in fowl

1 - Dimethylamino - 2 - chloropropane is prepared by heating b -dimethylamino-isopropyl alcohol with SOCl2; 1-diethylamino-2-chloroethane is prepared analogously, but at - 5 DEG C. in chloroform. 1-Dimethylamino-2-bromo-ethane and the corresponding 2-chloro compound are prepared by treating b -dimethylamino-ethyl alcohol with the appropriate hydrogen halide. The products are readily converted into hydrogen halide addition salts which are used for veterinary purposes (see Division A5).ALSO:Veterinary compositions suitable for combating nematode infections in fowl comprise as active ingredient an acid addition salt of the formula in which R1 and R2 represent the same or different C1-C4 alkyl groups, R3 represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group, X1 represents C1 or Br and X2 represents a non-toxic anion (preferably chloride or bromide), together with an edible feedstuff or non-toxic liquid p having sustenance value for fowl, e.g. water. In an embodiment the active ingredient is present in a concentrate, adapted for dilution with a poultry feed or drinking water, together with a solid ingestible carrier. The compositions may optionally contain vitamins, minerals and tonic or growth-promotion factors, as well as additional chemotherapeutic and antibiotic agents (all unspecified). The aqueous compositions may also include skim milk, edible oils, syrups and emulsifiers.
