1,031,737. Fluid amplifiers. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Sept. 18,1963 [Sept. 26,1962], No. 36762/63. Heading G3H. A fin or aerofoil 20 is provided in at least one outlet of a pure fluid amplifier for stabilization of flow. As shown, power fluid, e.g. air, issuing from a nozzle 11 normally discharges to an outlet 16 but can be deflected to either of two other outlets 15, 17 by flow from control nozzles 13, 14, one of which carries a reference signal. Thus, when a monitored signal equals the reference signal the power flow is to the outlet 16 but when it is above or below the reference signal the power flow is directed to one of the outlets 15, 17. The aerofoil 20, which may be changed in shape or position to alter the sensitivity of the device, maintains the discharge to the outlet 16 despite small variations in the control signals. The walls 25, 27 are so shaped that flow to the outlets 15, 17 is stabilized by by boundary layer action, but these walls may be vented to atmosphere to prevent such stabilization. Modifications are described in which an aerofoil is situated in each outlet of devices having two and five outlets.
|
