PURPOSE:To integrate a charge counter only in actual use by allowing a reception side to give a reply of a prescribed reception signal to a transmission side during reception and allowing the transmission side to detect the said reception signal to supervise the operating state of the line. CONSTITUTION:When a facsimile equipment is called as a reception station, a control section 3 executes a prescribed transmission procedure to a calling station via a MODEM 5, changes over a switch 12 to the position of a reception signal generating section 10 when a network controller 6 is switched to the MODEM 5, and activates the section 10. Thus, the reception signal generated from the section 10 is transmitted to the calling section via the switch 12, the network controller 6 and a public telephone line network. On the other hand, the transmission station calls the destination and changes over the switch 12 to the position of a reception signal detection section 11 as soon as the line is established, executes a prescribed transmission procedure, transmits picture information to the reception station and records the charge of the public telephone line.
