PURPOSE:To make effective use of the dynamic range of a photoelectric conversion element by controlling the output level of the said element corresponding to the density of an original such as the quantity of light transmitted the unexposed part of a negative film original underwent the device. CONSTITUTION:The photoelectro motive type photelectric conversion element SP is disposed in an illuminating visual view. The quantity of light transmitted the part of a film outside the perforation (film shifting hole) i.e. the unexposed part (pure orange base part) of the film is measured as to R(red), G(green), B(blue), and IR(infrared) components. The accumulation period T of a linear sensor 11 is controlled by a control part 101 based on the data of the said measurement as the said four components, so that the amount of accumulated charges reaches saturation when the sensor 11 scans the orange based part.
