PURPOSE:To display a layout with a small-sized indicator by providing a mode setting control means to return automatically a layout displaying mode during the setting to a document input displaying mode toward and optional key input in the layout displaying mode commanded from a special key input means. CONSTITUTION:A key input is waited. Next, it is judged whether the keyed-in key is a layout displaying designating key 1b or not. At the time of YES, a CPU 2 sets a layout displaying mode, reads the layout data stored into a layout data storing area 5b and displays them to an indicator 4. At the time of NO, on the other hand, document preparing data inputted from a document preparing key part 1a are stored input a document storing area 5a on a RAM 5 and the document is edited. Next, the CPU 2 sets a document input displaying mode, reads the document data stored into the document storing area 5a and inputs and edits the layout data of the document data stored into the document storing area 5a into a layout data storing area 5b.
