The invention concerns a foldable trolley base for transporting heavy objects particularly between a first support surface and a vehicle and then from the vehicle to a further support surface. The base (l2) is foldable between an erected condition in which the sides (l3) are spaced apart and upright portions (l4) project upwardly from support portions (l5) and a folded condition in which the sides (l3) are juxtaposed and the upright and support portions (l4, l5) lie adjacent one another.

In the erect condition a locking pin (39) carried by the support portion (l5) projects into an aperture in the base of an upright portion (l4) to lock the two portions together. When the sides are moved to their juxtaposed positions a release pin (46) attached to the locking pin (39) causes withdrawal of the locking pin from the aperture to allow the upright and support portions to be relatively pivotted to the folded condition.
