PURPOSE:To improve a surface treating capacity and the durability of an operating body by depositingly forming a hard abrasive grain layer of silicon carbide, diamond, quartz, alumina, etc. on the surface of said operating body in an electromagnetic type surface treating device for treating a metal plate, etc. CONSTITUTION:An operating body 7 consists of a body 71 of a bar-like piece made of a magnetic material or a nonmagnetic and conductive material, and a hard abrasive grain layer 72 which covers its outer surface. The abrasive grain layer 72 contains abrasive grains 73 of, e.g., silicon carbide, diamond, quartz, alumina, etc., and is deposited and formed on the surface of the body 71 via a metal binder 74 in such a way that cutting edges are exposed on the surface. Accordingly, when the surface treatment of a workpiece is carried out, cutting action by means of the cutting edges of the abrasive grains 73 which constitute the abrasive grain layer 72 is added to the beating action of the operating body 7, to improve the surface treating capacity. Also, the operating body 7 the surface of which is covered with the hard abrasive grain layer 72, has a high surface hardness improving its durability. |
