PURPOSE:To obtain a material for high-surface pressure structural parts having excellent resistance to pitting and fatigue by depositing TiC, etc., by evaporation on the surface layer of a stock of a steel consisting of specifically composed C, Si, Mn and Fe then subjecting the steel to hardening such as induction hardening. CONSTITUTION:The steel contg. 0.35-0.70wt% C, <=1.0% Si, and <=1.50% Mn, further contg. >=1 kinds among <=1.0% Ni, <=1.0% Cr and <=0.6% Mo, and/or >=1 kinds among <=0.15 Al, <=0.03% N, <=0.5% Ti, <=0.5% V, and <=0.5% Nb at need and consisting of the balance Fe and inevitable impurities is used as the stock. After the above-mentioned stock is subjected to prescribed working, the TiC, TiN or the like is deposited by evaporation thereon to form a hard layer. Such layer is subjected to high-density energy hardening using induction hardening or laser, etc. The surface hardness is thereby increased and the ade quate hardness of the core part and hardening depth are obtd. The material for the mechanical structural parts exhibiting the excellent resistance to pitting under the high surface pressure of about >=200kgf/mm<2> is thus obtd.
