PURPOSE:To produce metallic Mo powder having superior dispersibility and uniform particle size without causing aggregation during reduction when powdery MoO3 is reduced in a hydrogen atmosphere at a prescribed temp. to produce metallic Mo powder, by adding a specified very small amount of K or a K compound to the powdery MoO3 before reduction. CONSTITUTION:When powder of MoO3 obtd. by oxidizing MoS2 is reduced to metallic Mo powder by heating to 600-1,000 deg.C in a hydrogen atmosphere, K or a K compound is added to the MoO3 powder by 30-300wt. ppm and the powder is reduced. Mo powder formed during the reduction under heating does not aggregate, so Mo powder having uniform particle size in a narrow particle size distribution and superior dispersibility is obtd.
