PURPOSE:To prevent a user from being given any erroneous time information, by detecting and memorizing the stoppage of a reference signal due to a drop in the charging voltage to display a second modulation signal. CONSTITUTION:When a user continues to use this electronic time piece without noticing a modulation display of a 2sec step pulse P11 prompting him to charge it, the voltage further drops to stop a reference signal P6 of a reference signal generation circuit 6. Under such a condition, as it is recharged without knowledge of the user, with the inputting of a pulse P10 from a normal state signal generation circuit 10, a timepiece is driven again as left delayed by a time equivalent to the stoppage of the signal P6 and so, a time display unit 16 gives a display remaining unchanged as usual. This means that the user may use the time piece without noticing the actual deviation in the time. To solve this, a second modulation signal generation circuit 14, a second selection circuit 15 and a stoppage/memory circuit 8 are arranged to provide an irregular 2sec step pulse P12 for warning that the timepiece is delayed by a time equivalent to the stoppage of the signal P6 and switch the mode to a second modulation display mode to warn about the deviation in the time. This modulation display is released by pulling a crown.
