PURPOSE:To decrease the consumption of costly electric power and inexpensively produce a molten steel from scrap by alternately using 2 pieces of melting furnaces and melting the preheated scrap partly with an arc then executing the melting and refining of the remaining part by coal and oxygen. CONSTITUTION:The scrap preheated in a preheating furnace D is charged into one furnace A of two units of the melting furnaces A, B and about 1/3 of the scrap 27a is melted by the arc energization by an electrode 15. A cap 16 provided with the electrode 15 is removed and after the furnace is hermetically closed by another cap 23b, coal powder and oxygen are blown from bottom tuyeres 24a, 25a into the furnace to carburize the molten scrap and to decrease the m.p. thereof and the same time to melt remaining about 2/3 of the scrap. Only the oxygen is blown to the furnace to make decarburization refining by the oxygen when the entire amt. of the scrap is melted. The molten steel is thus produced. The CO-contg. exhaust gas emitted from the melting furnace A is burned by a combustion furnace C. After the scrap 27b in another furnace B is preheated by the high-temp. gas, the scrap is subjected to refining for steel making by the operation similar to the operation for the furnace A. The exhaust gas from the scrap preheating furnace preheats the cool scrap in the preheating furnace D.
|
