PURPOSE:To enable decision on the integrity of a connection at the assembling stage, by setting an elastic wave generating section and an acoustic emission sensor on a reinforced insulator at the intermediate connection of a resin insulated power cable. CONSTITUTION:When an elastic wave such as untrasonic wave is injected through an intermediate connection from an elastic wave generating section 1, a defective part such as poor adhesion receives the elastic wave and continued to be expanded or elongated, leading to the generating of an acoustic emission. This acoustic emission (AE) wave propagates through a reinforced insulator d, received with an AE sensor 3 set on the surface thereof and the output waveform thereof is memorized into a wave memory 5 after it is amplified with an amplifier 4. A frequency analysis and analyse on the amplitude and the frequency of pulses are done with an analyzer 6 and the results are recorded into a recorder. By examining the results outputted from the AE sensor 3, an internal defect is inspected as AE wave generation source inside the intermediate connection and it is determined whether this defect affects the use or not.
