PURPOSE:To improve the durability of the titled medium by specifying the thickness of a protective film to be provided on the upper surface and the lower surface of a photomagnetic recording layer, and forming the protective films with a reducing dielectric or a dielectric contg. no oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A light-transmittable protective film 2, a photomagnetic recording layer 3 consisting of TbFe, and a light-transmittable protective film 4 are formed on a light-transmittable substrate 1 consisting of polycarbonate, etc. The thickness of the film 2 is controlled to >=100nm, and the thickness of the film 4 is adjusted to + or -10% of (lambda/4n)X(2m+1). In the equation, (m) is 0,1, 2,3,...; (n) is the refractive index of the film 4; lambda is the wavelength of light. Moreover, the films 2 and 4 are formed with a reducing dielectric or a dielectric contg. no oxygen (e.g., AlSiN). The durability of the optical recording medium can be improved without adding any expensive element by this constitution.
