PURPOSE:To diagnose the system reliability of an external storage device by deciding the I/O frequency of data and the I/O frequency restored by retry processing in addition to a diagnosis system based upon an I/O command to be executed by an ordinary diagnosis system. CONSTITUTION:At the time of the error recovery capability of an I/O command generated from an I/O command generating means 1 is reported, an error retry processing means 3 generates a command for error retry. A response information diagnosing means 4 diagnoses response information sent when a command is normally ended by the retry processing. Then, the reliability of an external storage device 2 is decided on the basis of the generating frequency of the I/O command and the I/O frequency restored by the retry processing.
