This transformer comprises a generally rectangular core (20) having two yokes (21, 22) and two legs (23, 24) connecting the yokes, with joints (25) located in one (22) of the yokes. Coil structures (17, 18) surround the two legs. Flexible banding (58) under tension applies clamping forces to two clamping plates (50, 52) spaced outwardly from the yokes, and these clamping forces are transmitted to the coil structure by paths bypassing the core. The banding extends alongside the legs (23, 24) and is oriented so as to engage the core at opposite ends of said one yoke (22) but so as to be spaced from the core at opposite ends of the other yoke (21). |
