PURPOSE:In the reaction of the non-conjugated linoleic acid in a fatty acid mixture with acrylic acid, specific amounts of iodine and a phosphite ester are added to enable the production of the titled compound which is used as an anticorrosive or a plasticizer for alkyd resins, in high conversion and high yield. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is obtained by reaction of acrylic acid with a fatty acid mixture containing non-conjugated linoleic acid in the presence of 0.1-2.0wt% of a phosphite ester and 0.1-0.5wt% of iodine based on the fatty acid mixture at 200-270 deg.C. The fatty acid mixture is, e.g., tall oil or soybean fatty acids. The phosphite ester is from an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol such as ethanol, p-octylphenol and a mono- di- or triester is used. |
