PURPOSE:To ensure the reading of a prescribed color component by applying a prescribed calculation to a picture signal of a discriminated color and a picture signal of a complementary color as to the discriminated picture element. CONSTITUTION:A picture is diffracted spectrally into a discriminated color and its complementary color, the result is photoelectrically transduced by line image sensors 8, 9, output signals P1, P2 of the line image sensors are compared by each picture element so as to discriminate whether or not the picture element is the discriminated color. As to the discriminated picture element, a prescribed calculation 20 is applied to a picture signal R of the discriminated color and a picture signal C of a complementary color to form color picture signals R1, B1 corresponding to the discriminated color, the other picture elements are discriminated to be black/white picture elements and the picture signal of the complementary color is outputted as a black/white picture signal BW. In case the part of the discriminated color is positioned singly to the white background, the black picture elements appearing in pseudo way around the discriminated color are corrected into white picture elements.
