PURPOSE:To make the formation mechanism of a ripple mark clear by spreading colored sand in a sand box which is open upward at the measurement part of a round current water tank. CONSTITUTION:The sand box 3 which is open upward is arranged at the measurement part of the round current water tank 2 as shown in figure (a) and particulate sand 4 colored with paint is spread in the sand box 3. When the water is the water tank 2 is circulated, a water flow is generated as shown by an arrow (d) in figure (b) and the sand 4 in the sand box 3 moves bit by bit from the upstream side to the downstream side and is deposited, so that the process of the formation of a ripple mark of ridges (a), (b), and (c) is observed. At this time, the sand 4 is colored, so the motion of the sand 4 by the water flow is observed clearly.
