NEW MATERIAL:4-(4-Pyridyl)cyclohexanone-1,3-dione expressed by formula I. USE:A raw material for 4-(4-pyridyl)cyclohexanone useful as an intermediate for isoquinoline derivatives having cardiotonic activity. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is cyclized in the presence of an alkali or a compound expressed by formula III is condensed with methyl acrylate in the presence of sodium methoxide to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The above-mentioned compound is converted into an enol ether, which is then reduced to give a compound expressed by formula IX. The resultant compound expressed by formula IX can be further passed through a compound expressed by formula X and derived to a compound, expressed by formula XI and having cardiotonic activity.
