PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for making an edge prepn. and to permit good welding after long-term resting by subjecting part or the entire length on one side of a rolled thick steel plate product to the edge prepn. for welding and applying a rust preventive paint on the prepd. groove faces. CONSTITUTION:The rolled thick steel plate product is beveled by machining such as cutting of a thick steel plate after rolling. The groove faces is coated with a thin film material consisting of a rust preventive material which can be easily removed. The thin film material is a liquid material having rust preventive powder and is used by subjecting the material to heating, drying, etc., after coating onto the groove faces to increase the adhesive power thereof.
