PURPOSE:To prevent the deactivation of a biocatalyst as far as possible and to obtain a biocatalyst able to be absorbed or diffused in or out of an immobilized gel, by mixing an aqueous solution or suspension of a biocatalyst to an ionic urethane prepolymer and foaming and curing the mixture by stirring. CONSTITUTION:A biocatalyst is mixed to an ionic urethane prepolymer. The water in the aqueous solution or suspension of the biocatalyst is instantaneously reacted with residual isocyanate group of the ionic urethane prepolymer to effect the foaming and solidification of the urethane prepolymer. The biocatalyst is immobilized in the ionic polyurethane by this process.
