PURPOSE:To efficiently remove only the coating on the top face of the neck of a glass bottle by burning by blowing a burner flame against the neck of a glass bottle coated with a surface treating soln. with the aid of a guide plate. CONSTITUTION:A coating film is formed on a bottle of instant coffee, etc., with a surface treating soln. such as an aq. soln. of a surfactant or a resinous emulsion to protect the surface. In case of a coffee bottle, a film coated on the top face is removed, and then a thin film as an inner seal is stuck on the top face of the bottle neck to hermetically seal the contents. For the purpose, a coffee bottle 1 is placed on a stand 3, slowly rotated around the center axis, and moved in the direction as shown by the arrow at the velocity of 700mm/min. During the movement, a flame from a gas burner 4 provided obliquely above the bottle 1 is blown in 3-15mm thickness against the whole top face 2 of the bottle neck with a stainless steel sheet 5 as a guide plate, and only the coating on the top face is burnt and completely removed.
