PURPOSE:To lessen manpower for index measurement and to speed up said measurement by providing a slow heating-up region in a heating-up region in the step for measuring volatile matter. CONSTITUTION:A step 1 for measuring moisture by a thermobalance method, step 2 for measuring the volatile matter and step 3 for measuring ash and fixed carbon are successively executed, by which the industrial analysis of coal is executed. The slow heating-up region is, thereupon, provided to the heating-up region of the step 2 and the differential curve of the change in speed of the loss of weight in the slow heating-up region is recorded simultaneously with other measurement items, by which the max. thermal decomposition speed or half value amplitude is obtd. from the differential curve. The control index for the oxidation or weathering of the coal is, therefore obtd. by substantially the same labor as for the measurement operation by the thermobalance method, by which the manpower for the index measurement is lessened and said measurement is speeded up.
