PURPOSE:To prevent color mixture in multi-color printing mode and enable high speed printing in monocolor printing mode by arranging in parallel a plurality of recording electrodes shifted a direction where they cross the movement direction of a plurality of carriages at right angle so that the electrodes may form a group. CONSTITUTION:All electrodes 23 are arranged in horizontal parallel at a rate of six electrodes in each holder aligned in a carriage travelling direction. Thus they are divided into groups I, II... and their vertical positions are sequentially shifted in a carriage travelling direction. After this, the vertical arrangement pitch Py of electrodes 23 is set uniform throughout all the groups, and the horizontal arrangement pitch Px of the recording electrodes 23 in the same group is equalized. Then an adjoining space to the boundary or each group is set wide. Consequently, in the multi-color printing mode by which different color inks are supplied to the recording electrode 23 per group, a space between the groups is so wise as to prevent color mixture. In the monocolor printing mode by which the same color ink is fed to all the recording electrodes 23, the number of vertical dots forming the back and forth travel of a carriage is increased, thus performing high speed printing. |
