PURPOSE:To control the degree of expansion of a resin pattern having three- dimensional network structure to form a porous metal having various pore sizes by immersing said pattern into liquid and changing the liquid absorption thereof. CONSTITUTION:A polyurethane, PVA, PVC, viscose sponge, etc., are used as the resin for the pattern. Benzene anisole or aniline is used for the liquid if the resin is the polyurethane as the combination of said resins and liquid. The liquid is water of <75 deg.C if the resin is the PVA. Methods to control the liquid absorption include a method for controlling the same by the time and temp. for and at which the pattern is immersed in the liquid, method for controlling the same by the time, temp. and pressure to evaporate the liquid absorbed by the pattern or method for controlling the same by changing the kind of the liquid, etc. The control of the liquid absorption is also possible by controlling the curing time of a casting mold in the case of changing the liquid absorption by the evaporation time of the liquid.
