PURPOSE:To prevent a gob from being press-molded in such a state that it is melt-stuck on a gob dish by providing a projecting part to the periphery of a mold release ring and engaging it to a carrier dish for an optical material just before the molding die is brought into contact with the optical material. CONSTITUTION:An annular projecting part 30c is protruded in the outer periphery of the abutting face 30b of an upper mold release ring 30 in the upper and lower mold release rings 30, 31 corresponding to the upper and lower dies 1, 2. When a gob dish 50 mounted with a heated and softened gob 111 is carried into a molding chamber, the lower die 2 is raisen and the gob dish 50 is pushed up to the upside of the molding face 2a thereof. At this time, the projecting part 30c of the upper mold release ring 30 is engaged to the gob dish 50 just before the molding is performed together with the upper die 1 and the gob dish is separated from the ascending gob 111. The gob 111 is pressed on the molding face 1a of the upper die and press-molded into a glass lens by the molding faces 1a, 2a of the upper and lower dies 1, 2. The yield and the precision of the product are enhanced by the use of the is mold release ring.
