Anti-theft system intended for protecting articles in shops, such as clothes. The invention relates to a device making it possible to protect articles against theft by gripping them, whilst at the same time allowing said articles to be freely tried on. In the open position, the cylindrical protuberance 12 of the rocker 3 can slide in the slot 8. In the closed position, the gripping of the article between the arms 1 and 2 causes pressure on the piston 4 which triggers an electrical contact connected to a central alarm system by means of a conductor wire. A deformation of the arms 1 and 2 generated at the centre of these by the user allows the cylindrical protuberance 12 to lodge in the notch 7, thus causing the joint to be blocked. The gripping jaw mechanism thus blocked in terms of rotation protects the article of clothing effectively, without the fear that it will be released inopportunely. <IMAGE>
