PURPOSE:To judge abnormality in a lean sensor with a simple method while controlling air-fuel ratio by judging whether or not the feed-back correction factor for lean control has a value outside a predetermined range. CONSTITUTION:When in step 110 is judged that an engine is not started, and in step 114 is judged that the feed-back controlling requirement is not established, the feed-back correction factor FAFO for controlling theoretical air fuel ratio and the feed-back correction factor FAFl for lean controlling are set to 1.0 in step 116. On the other hand, when in step 114 is judged that said requirement is established and in step 118 is judged that the lean controlling requirement is established, the feed-back correction factor FAFl for lean controlling is calculated in step 124. And whether or not this correction factor FAFl has values outside a predetermined range at least a predetermined number of times is judged to judge abnormality in a lean sensor.
