The chair has a seat (5), which can be pivoted about a rigid pivot axis (4), and a back-rest (7). The latter comprises a back-rest plate (70) which is displaceable on guide rails (72). The guide rails (72) are pivoted to a greater extent than the seat (5) during backward inclination of the seat (5) due to a guide part (8) which is connected to the piston rod (10) of a gas spring (11). Owing to the movement of the guide part (8), a pair of transmission levers (13) connected thereto rotate about a fixed pivot axis (15). A curved carrier link (14) attached to said pair of levers (13) is connected to the back-rest plate (70). Since the pivot axis (16) between the pair of levers (13) and the curved carrier link (14) passes through a far greater distance (b) than the connection point (6) between the seat (5) and the guide part (8) or the guide rails (72), the back-rest plate (70) is pulled downwards along said guide rails. It is brought about by this adjusting mechanism (13, 14) that the back-rest plate (70) substantially follows that sequence of movement (E-E'') which the human back carries out when inclining the seat (5). <IMAGE> |
