PURPOSE:To obtain a heating wire for electric heater having high energy density, capable of minimizing a heater, and excellent in resistance to oxidation and corrosion, by providing a Cr-Ni alloy consisting of a prescribed weight percentage range of Cr and the balance essentially Ni. CONSTITUTION:The heating wire for electric heater of this invention is composed of the Cr-Ni alloy consisting of, by weight, >20-50% Cr and the balance essentially Ni. In order to manufacture said heating wire, the above alloy is subjected to casting, hot working, wire drawing working, and then heat treatment at 1,150-1,250 deg.C in vacuum. Then the heat-treated alloy wire is subjected, in particular, to rapid cooling by means of inert gas such as Ar, He, etc., in place of conventional cooling by N2 gas. In this way, the draft in a latter wire drawing stage can be increased to a great extent and the reduction in the number of stages is made possible and, moreover, the generation of defective material surface is inhibited, so that product yield can be improved.
