PURPOSE:To realize spot heating and cooling air conditioning only a required space by rotating a receiving portion, comparing an amplifying output with the peak holding value of the amplification output and measuring a time from a rotation starting point to an inversion point of a comparison output to continuously detect the position of a remote controller. CONSTITUTION:A remote controller 2 has a luminous element 3. An air conditioner 1 has a light receiving element 4 receiving light. The light receiving element 4 is mounted on the rotary shaft of a motor 5. When the light emitting element 3 emits light at an angle alpha from a horizontal axis and the light receiving element 4 is rotated from 0 deg. to 90 deg., the amplification output obtains a waveform A. On the other hand, the peak holding circuit output waveform of the amplifying output A becomes a waveform B. When the amplification output A is compared with the peak holding output B, the comparison output is approximately inverted at a peak point P of the amplification output A. When the rotational speed of the light receiving element is assumed to be (v) and the time from the rotation starting point to the inverting point of the comparison output is assumed to be (t), the angle alpha becomes alpha=t.v. When the peak point is determined by amplification output determining means and the rotation passing time (t) are measured, the angle alpha can be obtained, and spot cooling and heating for air conditioning of a required space can be realized.
