PURPOSE:To enhance the on-board capacity ability as well as reduce the cost by installing a gas-liquid separating and counterflow checking device, which is located separately from the body of a fuel filter, in such a way as consoli dated with the fuel filter through incorporation in the body of filter. CONSTITUTION:This filter device includes a fuel filter 15 interposed in a fuel supply passage leading to an injection pump, and to this fuel filter 15 from a heated fuel passage 7A, it is possible to introduce part of the fuel overflowing from the injection pump 4. Here a gas liquid separating and counterflow checking device 16 interposed in said heated fuel passage 7A is incorporated in the fuel filter 15 in consolidated construction. That is, a float chamber 23 is formed in an upper cover 20 of the fuel filter 15, and a float 25 as a liquid surface responding member of said device 16 is accommodated in the space between this float chamber 23 and a float chamber cover 24 over it, wherein the cover 24 is fitted with a check valve 26 while a fuel passage 30 in communi cation with the float chamber 23 is equipped with a thermosensitive valve device 33.
